WONDERPORT

Wonderport Collectibles is the South African home for designer toys and blind boxes: POP MART, 52TOYS, Labubu, Hirono, Skullpanda, and dozens of other brands collectors chase. They hold the patent licensing and distribution rights that bring those products to local fans.

Wonderport

The app

Collectors can browse what just landed, dig into brand catalogues, save favourites, and stay close to drops they care about. The layout mirrors how people already shop Wonderport: new arrivals up front, then deep links into POP MART, 52TOYS, OHKU, and the rest of the roster.

There is also room to play and connect. A simple in-app game and community chat give regulars a reason to open the app between purchases, not only when a restock hits.

Personalized discovery

Wonderport did not have a tailored experience per collector. Everyone saw the same feed.

We added intelligence that learns what each person likes and skips over time. Likes, views, and purchases feed into recommendations that get sharper the more someone uses the app. A Labubu fan sees more of that world; someone into vinyl plush sees a different path. The goal is to surface the right blind box before the customer has to hunt for it.

What we built behind the scenes

The storefront ran on Shopify, but the company needed its own layer: middleware that ties the app, catalog data, and user behaviour together without forcing every idea through the theme.

That API work is what makes personalization and the native app possible. It is the glue between the shop they already trust and the experience they wanted to offer on mobile.

Why it mattered

Wonderport are the people who own distribution for Labubu and many of the brands South African collectors talk about every day. Working with a team that lives and breathes this market was a privilege. They care about product quality, fast delivery, and the community around collecting.

This project was about giving them tooling that matches that standard: an app collectors enjoy opening, and a backend that learns with every user.

The goal

We built a mobile app for the store plus the backend pieces the business was missing: a new API and middleware focused on how the company actually sells and serves collectors.
